Why Do We Resist?
In a video clip that was captured, the scholar and martyr Bassel Al-Araj stated:
"I was reading 'Fear and Courage,' a fantastic story by Alexander Bek. The query it raised was, "Why do we go to war?" "Death... death" was the typical response. Death is the key word in war, or the secret word. However, Bek proposed that death is not the key concept in battle. You enter a war to survive. "Kill... kill your enemy so that he does not kill you" is the key phrase in warfare. Why then do we oppose a more powerful foe than ourselves? The battle between our enemy and ourselves can only be understood as an existential struggle. In the event that I live, the enemy intends to eradicate me.
"I am in the process of extermination if he does not kill me quickly or very quickly." The thought of opposing this enemy, who may potentially destroy me and is most likely capable of doing so by simple power calculations, is daunting. However, the idea is to thwart the eradication by refusing to be easily eliminated. "At least do not allow these [bastards] to exterminate you with joy or ease if you are powerless to stop them from doing so."
Existentialism is the second idea. "I can live while I'm seated at my home with my wife, parents, and mother... The existential issue, however, is then raised: Why am I alive? If life is devoid of honor and the capacity to keep one's head high, what good is it? The concepts of honor, pride, and dignity are crucial. Whether we try to break them down or not, I think it will be challenging since they are more closely related to the soul than to tangible things.
In the fight for freedom, resistance is both a necessary and self-affirming tactic. The only path to Palestinian independence from colonialism is through resistance. The only way to stop the Zionist murder machine, which carries out killing sprees and engages in all kinds of torture, abuse, and erasure against Native Americans, is to take the violent route to end colonial brutality. In this way, using violence ceases to be considered violence and is accepted as a right by those who do it. The downtrodden start to feel obligated to commit acts of this kind of violence. It is the last remaining route to the country's freedom. As a result, the resistance must unite all peoples on the planet, as it is a right recognized by international law and all human standards."
