Jabalia

Israel has been carrying out horrifying massacres in the Gaza Strip for more than seven months now during the conflict. Israel keeps breaking international law, disregarding the rights of others, in spite of demands from other countries to end the conflict. Following an intense assault by artillery and aircraft fire, hundreds of Palestinians were forced to leave as Israeli forces stormed UNRWA shelters in Jabalia, north of Gaza, killing and detaining scores of people.

After it started on May 11, the Israeli assault on Jabalia's civilian population and its refugee camp quickly got worse. This came after severe fire belts were put in place, unlawful evacuation orders were issued forcing tens of thousands of people to flee, and artillery and aerial shelling was fired nonstop. Six UNRWA classrooms on "Schools Street" in the Jabalia camp, which served as shelter for thousands of displaced people, came under siege by Israeli soldiers. These forces targeted the schools and the area around them with artillery bombardment, gunfire, and the use of quadcopter drones. Thousands of individuals were forced to evacuate under gunfire and bombardment before the Israeli soldiers arrived at the schools, unable to take any of their possessions with them. There were claims that many of the dead and injured were trapped in the shelters, surrounding streets, under and around targeted homes, and in other locations. Israeli forces also targeted rescue and medical personnel, preventing them from operating, which hindered their capacity to remove the dead and wounded. Jabalia's camp, as well as all of its residential areas, were subject to heavy artillery and aerial bombardment as well as fire belts.

By establishing an environment of coercion and frequently, forcefully, and directly bombing residential neighborhoods and shelters—disregarding all legal prohibitions against such actions—the occupation seeks to forcibly and methodically uproot individuals from their homes and locations.
