"Israel attacks Gaza's churches and mosques!

Since October 7, Israel has been waging a genocide campaign on the Gaza Strip, eradicating people, plants, stones, cultural heritage, and identity. This includes all of the historical Palestinian landmarks in the Gaza Strip, such as mosques and Byzantine churches.

In the war it waged on the Gaza Strip, the occupation destroyed nearly a thousand mosques, including the Great Omari Mosque in the heart of Gaza, in an attempt to erase Palestinian existence and Palestinian identity in all its forms, which indicate the ownership of Palestinian land by its indigenous inhabitants, the Palestinians alone. This attempt has been ongoing for almost a century. This mosque is regarded as a masterwork of architecture with deep cultural significance in the history of Palestine—not only the Gaza Strip. The mosque, which was established about 1400 years ago, is thought to be the oldest and largest in the Gaza Strip and the third largest in all of Palestine. During the month of Ramadan, worshippers congregate there from all areas of Gaza to participate in religious rites and Taraweeh prayers.

Along with the sector's Islamic character, a number of Roman-era churches were also targeted by the occupation. The largest and oldest church in the area, the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Porphyrius, is one of the most well-known of these. Originally constructed on top of a prior wooden pagan temple from an earlier era, the church is situated in Gaza City's Zaytoun area. It was founded in the year 407.

Mosques and churches in the Gaza Strip were specifically targeted with the intention of achieving the occupation's long-standing objective, which is to eradicate Palestinian existence in all of its manifestations.
