"The role of social media platforms regarding the aggression on Gaza"
Supporters of the Palestinian cause have turned to methods of circumventing these algorithms, such as encrypting text and substituting particular letters with symbols, in response to the increasing crackdown on Palestinian content, which has been met with suppression by the algorithms of social media platform owners. However, in spite of efforts by Western media and those who support the Israeli narrative to obfuscate and misrepresent the facts, they have been successful in bringing attention to the horrific atrocities committed under the occupation by reporting on what is occurring on the ground.
It was crucial for supporters of the Palestinian cause to raise awareness and talk about the origins and background of the problem in the midst of the public slaughter in the Gaza Strip. The right to self-determination for peoples under occupation is recognized by international law, and this issue sanctioned the resistance's response to the October 7th onslaught. By posting thousands of films, pictures, and data illustrating the horrors of the occupation and the history of Palestinian suffering, users of these platforms also turned to using them to expose the atrocities committed by the occupation.
Social media platforms also made it easier for local and international events to spread quickly, converting online conversations and comments into in-person interactions. This helped to organize campaigns in support of the Palestinian people in Gaza and throughout Palestine, disseminate them through these platforms, and mobilize youth to understand the Palestinian cause and their aspirations for liberation.
